| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Daft but likeable buddy movie sex comedy (7/10) (07 March 2010)I've seen a couple of Will Ferrell movies now and I think he's just terrible; so it's my pleasure to say that he's not in this one very much. He does manage though to go insanely OTT. This massively implausible, cartoonish sex comedy has Vaughn (Jeremy) and Owen (John) as wedding crashers whose qualms about living a lie in order to get laid in the wedding season have long since been repressed; that is, until Owen calls one conquest by the wrong name and starts thinking. Soon both men are ripe for love. Of course it's ridiculous that these guys make such a spectacle and don't get thrown out, but you're not meant to overthink a film like this. It's fun, quite smutty, but it has it's heart in the right place. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() True Love, with Laughs (14 October 2009)This is the movie equivalent of the humour section great The Complete Guide to Gatecrashing: Freeload Your Way to a More Glamorous Social Life. Thematically its a comic "growing pains" movie featuring the adventures and misadventures of two martial causes/divorce mediators who, having been bequeathed a list of wedding crashing rules by a mysterious but idolised friend, have been crashing weddings for sport until one of them begins to feel the pangs of conscience wondering if its not sleazey and irresponsible. The pair agree to one final big crash, that of a major fortune five hundred family, hooking up with the brides maids they are invited back to the family's countryside retreat and it could be love. In the interim the family and their friends all turn out to be eccentric to put it mildly, with all kinds of quirks and troubled or sexual undercurrents. This is played out to full comic effect and its absolutely hilarious. I think this movie succeeds in delivering great laughs even more than Meet The Parents & Meet The Fockers Box Set [DVD] [2000] and definitely more so than American Pie (Ultimate Edition) [1999] [DVD]. The humour is not gross out humour and the directors havent gone for humilitation laughs, in addition to straight laughs and entertainment there's enough heart warming asides and musings to pace the story and develop the characters and plot pleasingly. The movie has a cutesy fairy tale quality but its not too hammy and I think it would appeal to male or female viewers alike. The "uncorked" feature doesnt have a lot to recommend it over the theatrical production and the feature itself is accompanied by deleted scenes, commentaries (by Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, instantly forgetable and uninteresting, and the Director, David Dobkin), Featurettes, The Rules of Wedding Crashing and Trailers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Crying-with-laughter funny (07 August 2009)This has become one of my all-time favourite comedies. I originally saw it at the cinema after the movie I originally wanted to see was sold out. But disappointment quickly turned to glee at this unexpectedly hilarious offering from members of the "Frat Pack". Many times in the cinema hall, I was literally crying with laughter and my belly ached. Similar reactions from the rest of the audience are enough to show that the few who commented negatively on this movie are in the minority. Vince Vaughan's funny man bounces well off Owen Wilson's charming straight man. The wedding crasher concept is itself original and gets the duo into new and interesting situations. Add to this, a number of wierd and funny characters with which they interact and you have a recipe for side-splitting laughter. The little bit of nudity in it is unnecessary and could have been left out. I don't know why movie-makers insist on including it as leaving it out could have appealed to a wider audience. I bought this movie on DVD and watch it from time from time when I need a good laugh. The comedy is silly, slap-stick, and juvenile but also very clever. Add to this the romantic stories in the background and you have a great feel-good movie which should be sold with a money-back guarantee. Don't miss it! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Funny, interesting movie despite the length (18 July 2009)Wedding Crashers was undoubtedly one of the breakout comedies of the summer of 2005. As I rewatched this movie on television last night for the third time I can clearly see why. As the name suggests the story follows two thrity-something, fun-loving guys: Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, who make it their business to go around crashing weddings, basically so they can have a party and bed gorgeous women. Things change when they decide to crash the wedding of a wealthy government official. What seems like your average wedding despite the extra-trimmings quickly turns into something quite unexpected when the two unassuming guys are invited back to the pre-wedding party, with hilarious consequences are Vaughn's character is stalked by the clingy and crazy, sex-obsessed daughter of the Secretary General, while Wilson must contend with affairs of the heart as he finds himself falling for Claire (Rachel McAdams), despite her impending engagement. This movie is absoutely hilarious. The script is sharp with a good combination of funny quips and physical comedy certain to keep people of all ages entertained. (Although some scenes might not be appropriate for children under twelve!) The story, despite its simplicity is endearing and despite the childishness and stupidity of the two leads, one cannot help but feel for them in their quest to have a good time. Romance and comedy is perfectly balanced out: Vaughn's story being more comic, while Wilson's is more romantic. As such this movie would make the ideal date-movie. It loses a star because of its length, which I feel could have been more tightly edited for a swifter movie. To conclude I would highly recommend Wedding Crashers for anyone looking for a good comedy or indeed romantic-comedy. Also for those looking for a date movie that will keep both sexes entertained. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great fun (24 June 2009)Admittedly, this film will never be winning any awards. It is, however, a great one to watch if you just want to relax. Doesn't require too much brain activity or thinking while it's on (unlike mystery/crime/whodunnit type films). I won't repeat the details of the plot as they are already on this page enough. But I will reiterate, by saying this film is a great bargain and can be enjoyed by a wide variety of people. So ladies, your blokes can watch this and see the male humour too! Enjoy! |
