| | Customer Reviews: Don't waste a hour and a half of your life (02 January 2009)First, let me say, I was a huge x-files fan and went into this with my fan hat on expecting to really enjoy it. But it was a disappointment in every way. The plot, weak, not at all x-files worthy, just a basic murder-killer plot for a stupid reason that isn't beleiveable, there was nothing actually supernatural, paranormal, or x-files-ish about any of it. Mulder and Scully's relationship on the screen was awful, honestly, if they wanted to make it beleivable that the two of them had been living together in a loving relatinsip for almost ten years, then there should have been something more than cold boring dialogue, lots of cringe worthy moments of attempts at softness, and just generally there was no spark at all. I think the worst thing is that after years of good episodes this had so much potential, but it was just boring, not a single thrill, plot twist of moment of surprise, it was just a complete disappointment and leaves you feeling cheated if you are a fan. The show, the series, the characters deseved a better plot, better script, better everything. Not a movie just a feature length episode (01 January 2009)Mulder and Scully return in this disappointing big screen tale.We find that Scully is now working as a doctor and is visited by agent Whitney (Amanda Peet) to find Mulder and help assist a search for a missing agent. Enter Mulder with a ridiculous beard in a vain attempt to make it look as if he has lived in isolation. Not only that he spends the first quarter of the movie walking around like a hobo. I would have thought that the FBI would have told him to clean up his act. Only Mulder it seems has the expertise to investigate this tedious case rendering all other agents useless and also Scully spends most of the movie trying to talk him away from the case. This despite the fact it was she who asked him in the first place. To me the x files worked because it dealt with the incredible fantastical stories.And the excellent interplay between Mulder and Scully. The fact that Scully is no longer in the FBI destroys it for me; she is on the outside looking in. And her and Duchovnys acting are average and at times Scully seems to overact almost trying to breathe life into the film. And the supporting cast are weak Xzibit another rapper appearing to act spends the movie rubbishing the psychic links from Billy Connolly. One phone exchange between Scully and him sums up the movie, despite a dead agent and escaped killer on the loose he appears to have lost interest in the case and does not know where Mulder is. And in a vain attempt to refresh a struggling plot Skinner is introduced to assist. Billy Connolly feels tacked on and the whole movie just felt disjointed broken with a weak plot leading to gruesome experiments. That being said at least the scenery is beautifully shot snowy landscapes, which give the movie a haunted look but it's all wasted on a weak plot with a poor supporting cast and bored expressions from Scully and Mulder.I even wonder if they wanted to appear in this movie at all. Maybe an extension of the plot in the first movie which was much better would have been stronger than this weak effort. X files fans may still like it at least for the pairing of Scully and Mulder again. Laughed my head off (30 December 2008)Just watched it on a big screen, blu-ray, lights down low. I was so absorbed by the plot that I was left as cold as the victims. It must have taken some effort on the part of the sound engineers to suppress the creaking. It's all been done before; mistrusted psycics that may or may not be the real thing are in so many scripts. What was that incidental bulbous thing in the FBI lab, getting the blowtorch treatment?? And a printer stopping without an on-screen message?? I was waiting for some creepy cross-cutting between the two surgical areas, which would have added some real-time tension, but the opportunity was missed. So, humble opinion: A routine and predictable vehicle. I want to be leaving. Disappointing (20 December 2008)Usually I am a believer in if you have nothing good to say then say nothing at all, but........ As a huge fan of the original series and owner of all boxsets series 1 to 9, I fail to understand the point of this film. I assumed when they finally got around to making a film, it would contine with the theme of the series, hopefully focusing on the foretold alien invasion planned for 2012. Instead they chose to make what is nothing more than a feature length episode that has nothing to do with any of the questions posed in series 9 (except I suppose the message to have faith in God). Sorry but boring and disappointing. I hope they make another film, and this time focus on the REAL theme of the XFiles, aliens and the super-soldiers and William (Mulder and Scullys son). If you are a true XFiles follower I would still buy this film, just don't hope for any answers to the questions the original series posed. they're back! (10 December 2008)At last we get Mulder and Scully back on the big screen! No aliens though, I suppose that is why some people were disappointed. But not me, the X-Files are not just about aliens. In this movie, you'll find suspense, a bit of paranormal, mysterious and wonderful scenery and, love. Also an amazing performance from Gillian Anderson particularly. A great movie to enjoy at home now, and to buy as a Christmas present! I even ordered my copy on the UK site, because, here in France where I live, we'll get it end of January ONLY... what a shame! |
