| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() rubbish rip off (11 October 2008)This film is a total rip off of mean machine, it totally copies it, even a lot of the script is the same, this film is rubbish you can even tell buy the price, mean machine has been out 5 years longer then the longest yard and they are both the same price, BUY MEAN MACHINE, much better Mean Machine [2001] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Funny and enjoyable another sandler classic. (20 September 2008)This movie might be a remake, it might even be an american version of Mean Machine with vinnie jones but its better than both. Adam sandler and an impressive cast of wwe superstars give a fantastic performace of comedy in its best form, the gurads are hatable and the convicts are good fun, funny. The film is great fun to watch and will have you laghing for the majority its good slapstick comedy at its best with a happy ending and a we dont care attitude. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() hmm.. (24 February 2008)I think the only good thing in this film is Chris Rock. The storyline id good but poorly executed. Has absolutely dire acting (probably adam sandlers worst, and thats saying something!) Yeh it has some good bits, but they are completely ruled out because off the appaling acting! I would say this is a worth a watch, but dont go out your way. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Adam Sandler in tight shorts...yum... (24 May 2007)This remake of the Burt Reynolds classic is a near perfect one; and Adam Sandler just adds to it's appeal. Top 5 things: 5. The story 4. Grown men jumpin on each other 3. Nelly in just a vest 2. Adam Sandler in tight shorts 1. ADAM SANDLER IN TIGHT SHORTS!!! I have all of Adam Sandlers films and i love all of them. The wedding singer, waterboy, billy madison, happy gilmore, 50 first dates, click, anger management, the longest yard and so many more. I also have some Saturday Night Live dvds and he is so funny, it cracks me up every time i watch them - and i've seen the a million times each!! Great movie, perfect cast, genious story and amazing wardrobe!! 10/10 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not one of Sandler's best (01 March 2007)This is another by-the-numbers Adam Sandler adventure, which means it's almost pointless to review it. Either you like this guy or you don't. Personally, I think he's pretty funny most of the time, so here are some thoughts. This one starts out with Sandler as disgraced ex-football player Paul 'Wrecking' Crewe, who is mooching off his girlfriend and being a jerk. Sandler gets into a drunken car wreck and next thing you know he's off to jail where redemptive sports-related opportunities await him. Before we've had time to properly wallow in the prison movie cliches, Sandler is roped into coaching the inmates for a big third act game against the guards. The Longest Yard is a real mixed bag in the casting department. Along with Sandler, you've got comedian Chris Rock, quality actors like James Cromwell and William Fichtner, annoying rapper Nelly, and former NFL star Brian Bosworth. Support also comes from wrestlers Kevin Nash, Bill Goldberg, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Chris Rock gets most of the best lines, but he's underused, as is Fichtner, whose character drops off the screen entirely until it's time for the climactic football game. Burt Reynolds is in this, too, as a nod to his old film Mean Machine, of which this is a remake. Also remade here is Reynolds's face, apparently. Watching his skin stretch up around his eyes in that odd manner was very distracting at times. All in all, this one is just okay. It's very well shot for a comedy, but there aren't enough laughs over the 105 minute running time to put it up there with Sandler classics like Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer. |
