Customer Reviews:

  Amazing Film (01 March 2010)
I brought this for my son who is 4. He absolutely adores this film (as do his mummy and daddy). We have watched this as a family again and again and we still are not bored with it. Its good fun - especially the 'Oglington Fartworthy' bit my son giggles his head off. He is also convinced that if hes naughty Nanny Macphee will come to his house and has been running around with a stick pretending to do her magic! Hence the 5 stars!

A marvellous festival of colourful cinematography (27 February 2010)
What struck me most about this film was the truly original and stunning cinematography. The use of colour, in particular, is astounding - it's as though a toddler has been let loose with a box of oil paints, and the result is really wonderful and sometimes quite breathtaking. There are bright pastel colours, and the sort of colours that one associates with children's building blocks (says he, giving away his age). There are acid colours, and lurid colours, and highly unlikely colour combinations that delight and amaze. Other touches too - the "blizzard" at the height of summer, for example - emphasise the magical theme of the story.

Yes, the acting's very good, and yes, Emma Thompson is wonderful, as she almost always is, but the intelligent and imaginative colour photography is in many ways the real star of the film. If you want to recapture the delight in vivid colour that you felt when you were three or four years old, look no further. Indeed just like Toy Story, this film in sensual terms transports you right back to your early years. In that sense, Nanny McPhee is not to be patronizingly dismissed as an up-market Mary Poppins creation - somewhat surprisingly for a children's film, it's a real work of art, and a joyous one, too. Highly recommended.

  Nanny McPhee..DVD. (23 February 2010)
Hey Hi,
maybe you are thinking, like i did. You have got this far reading reviews about this film? So whats' it like?
Nut-shell?? 10* (stars). Sit back, watch, enjoy, laugh, and GRRR at times.
A cracking family film.
A real must- watch film.

Nothing new but excellent fun (27 January 2010)
The story itself doesn't present any new or surprising plot turns, but our daughter (4 and a half) really likes it and clearly prefers it over Mary Poppins. Although formulaic, it's well executed, the characters are believable, the story flows at the right speed. A very good family film over all.

Hooray for Nanny McPhee (13 September 2009)
I loved this film. It's a fairy story, with a happy ending, a Cinderella tale with a twist: lovely characters, charming setting, moral magic, children made wiser -- what more could a grandma want?

Highly recommended.
