Unusually, not as good as the sequel, but very watchable (29 August 2010)
It has to be said that the sequel to this film is much more entertaining, with a more captivating plot, but having said that this is still good in its own right. The penguins are the most comic of the characters, but great performances from all of the lead 4 characters, portrayed by Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith (Lion, Zebra, Giraffe and Hippo respectively). I found the story took a little while to get going, the initial escape plan, which is quickly foiled seemed like a bit of a stalled plot, but by the time they had washed up on the beach of Madagascar I began to feel entertained. If you are looking for a film that the whole family can sit and watch together and all be entertained then this is it (but maybe get the sequel as well and watch them both over a weekend - that way you end it on a real high!)

madagascar disapointment (21 August 2010)
sadly this DVD was disapointing due to the fact that the sound was muffled and unhearable so it had to be returned but due to amazons credit a refund was delt with without fuss or problems .

Great kids film. Loveable characters, typical dreamworks quality. Some adult jokes to amuse the olds.

Theres an iland in africa and its called madagascar. For kids & adults. funny faimly film but i still thinck the other to are better.

As sequels go, this film didn't quite 'make the 'cut' for me. It lacked the originality of the 1st film and although it was really funny in places I believe the whole franchise would have been better left at just the one film.

However, viewing it through a blu-ray player most certainly made it visually stunning and the audio was brilliant.
