Customer Reviews:

Lawrence of Arabia (twin DVD) (18 August 2010)
My partner saw this film when originally released in Leicester Square, London, huge screen etc. he said that it was just fantastic.
I was concerned that this reworking using DVD's to be shown on a comparatively small TV screen at home would be a let-down BUT it worked very well indeed down to the intermission (change DVD), which is needed because it's a long film.
John was so pleased that his clear memory of the experience and the general impact that this film had on him was left undiminished, the DVD version worked very well and the price is frankly ridiculously low!

THE BEST MOVIE, THE SECOND BEST DVD (16 August 2010)
The four stars are given out of frustration for the delay of the blu ray version that was promised to appear two years ago. As a film, this is my number one choice as the best film ever. The current eddition is not bad but this is the kind of film to be seen on large screen, otherwise a lot of its magic will diminish. A projector and large screen are thus neccessary and hence the blu ray version is also neccessary. I had some views from the blu ray version is DVDs bought two years ago and I don't know what is delaying it. Anyway my advice is to wait for the blu ray version.

  JUST THE BEST ! (04 August 2010)
Put quite simply, the best film ever made by anyone at any time. I almost know the script by heart I have watched it so many times and it NEVER disappoints.

Do you always wear your cap in the mess Lawrence?? (03 August 2010)
Lawrence's tranformation from zero to hero is a tale that many of the youngsters saturated with the hollywood garbage of 90 mins thrills and spills might actually appreciate, along with the camp Lawro who turns harder than iron, it is surprising that this story hasn't yet been remade into hollytripe, I guess noone from Hollywood has had the patience to sit through it as it is longer than 90mins. Unfortunately, I think the film is tarnished with the desperation to include the big stars, who's performances are sub-standard or rather out-of-place, whereas O'Toole and Sharif blend in absolutely effortlessly, and are wholly believeable. A superb performance from O'Toole, who manages the journey from 'fool' to 'Lion Tamer' with captivating ease. Some terrific supporting perfomances and the breath-taking filmography and sets (visit Seville if you can) make this a true 'cinema only' experience, to be watched on a huge wide-screen as a minimum requirement- that topped with some brilliant one-liners and some great action scenes and slimey realpolitik make this the sort of reason you used to go to the cinema for. 'It's my manner sir.....'

  Disappointing transfer (14 July 2010)
Many of the reviews here seem to be of the DVD / Movie. This is of the music soundtrack.
Having had the vinyl of the original soundtrack since the beginning, I know the music extremely well. This CD version, by Castle, sounds as if it has been recorded from a rather poor worn out vinyl with distortion and slight ebbing and flowing of volume levels. I have just bought the Varèse Sarabande version, second-hand, and it is superior. Perhaps a touch of boominess in the bass, but it has the atmosphere and much of the clarity - something lacking from the Castle version, sadly.
