| | Customer Reviews: An unsung story.. (22 August 2010)Really gripped me throughout the film and was a unique tale of a true event in WWII that is fairly unknown. The accents were not a bother after all what do i know about yiddish accents? there was also a fair bit subtitling which helped create the story and the cast spoke the language very convincingly, Schreiber was fantastic, Craig sublime and Bell was decent. Overall a must watch for anyone who likes WWII stories and is every bit worth the money. Masterly (15 August 2010)Edward Zwick turns a true story into powerful cinema. The story of the Bielski brothers defiance of the German occupiers of Belorus during the second world war is gripping from start to finish, and leaves the usual puerile Hollywood war movie in the dust. Director Zwick brings out splendid performances from a choice cast, and demonstrates that Daniel Craig has far more quality as an actor than one might guess from seeing him in the silly 007 films. Buy this one, you will want to watch it again and again. love it (07 August 2010)fantastic. i was very impressed it had a brilliant story and great action. a brilliant performance from daniel craig. daniel craig did do a good jewish acsent wich made the movie very good. i recommend it!!!! I put store by the amazon customer star rating system, and where a book or movie is averaging 4 to 5 stars I am confident that I will get value for my hard earned cash. However, in this case I feel that my fellow reviewers have let me down. A good cast, and good reviews, I thought I was buying much more than this. I like fast paced, entertaining movies, and here in lies the problem with Defiance, it is so very slow moving. Based on true events, touching at times, it has a strong emotional finale, and I think that leads you to look more favourably on what precedes. However, I would go for Tom Cruise in Valkyrie and leave this one in the Milton Keynes warehouse. Excellent film, well written, convincingly acted. (14 July 2010)Well written and convincingly acted, this is one of the best WW2 films of recent years. The cinematography of the film is well thought out and gives a genuine sense of atmosphere appropriate to the bleak subject matter. Emotive without being swamped by sentimentality and containing action scenes devoid of today's de riguer "gung ho" flavour this is an highly watchable film and I would recommend it to anyone. Perhaps the greatest virtue of the film however, is that it is based upon factual events and although a litle artistic licence has been employed, the central story remains credible. Excellent. |
