(16 December 2008)i watched this DVD a number of times before giving birth to my first child and had none of the usual problems with breastfeeding - sore, bleeding nipples, failure to latch on, mastitis etc. although the form is somewhat patronising and matronly, the advice i found invaluable and especially useful were the individual case studies. Disheartening (27 July 2008)I found this DVD very disheartening. The overall impression it gave me was that breastfeeding was a hard and painful thing to do,and so it was all right if I failed, or only partially breastfed. Luckily,I found lots of posative support and this did not turn out to be the case. I would recommend Rebecca Glovers "Follow me mum" as being more helpful and encouraging. Breast Feeding Without Tears With Clare Byam-Cook The answer to breastfeeding problems and pain (09 July 2008)With my daughter I persisted with breastfeeding for six miserable months despite two NCT councillors, a laleche councillor and a maternity nurse who specialized in breastfeeding. They all told me the latch was fine but my baby appeared colicky and very unsettled. All this disappeared when I expressed each feed and gave it in a bottle so I knew the latch was the problem despite advice to the contrary. Clare Byam- Cook visited a friend of mine and she couldn't sing her praises highly enough....This time I have watched the DVD and I can see the difference and logic.... and who cares if the baby is manouvered about a bit about and the breasts being touched by Clare if it means the baby is well fed and the mother learns! We all know a well fed happy baby means a happy relaxed Mum - whats more important? Buy it, Hire it and send it to all new Mum's it could be the difference between success and failure.... Ignore the negative reviews especially if you are having problems and give it a whirl... Excellent DVD, all questions answered (25 April 2008)I totally disagree with the two bad reviews this DVD has been given. I found it to be extremely helpful and very reassuring. I think breastfeeding does not come easily for everyone and it shows you that simply positioning your baby correctly can completely change your breastfeeding experience from a painful and complicated one, to a joyful and worth while one. I also found the information about crying incredibly useful and overall, the DVD gave me lots of confidence with nursing my new baby. tears of dismay (12 March 2008)I totally agree with Sara's review of this dvd. Unempowering, old fashioned, no respect for mother or baby. Do anything else but look at this dvd: telephone the La Leche League or the NCT's breastfeeding helpline. Try reading Breastfeeding for Beginners from the NCT. Talk to other mums on Netmums.com breastfeeding forum. Trust your own instincts. |
