  Billabong Odyssey (11 November 2006)
Billabong Odyssey is one of the best, most brilliantly filmed big wave moview of all time. Not only is it genuinely tense and at some points (the end scene big wave surf contest is nail biting!!) it also deals with the future evolution of tow in surfing. The wave riding performances are astounding.

The only problem with this film, is the second DVD, which contains average shortboarding footage at low resolution.

BUY IT for the big wave scenes made via helicopter.

good but ive seen it all before (13 July 2006)
this dvd starts with some awsome big wave footage but from then on it just dosnt live up to this opening sequence. for people who have never seen big wave surfing before im sure this is a great place to start, but for surfers who have watched many surf flicks in those flat summer months this is nothing new. if you are in to a bit of a story about surfing and some pros charging big waves buy this, if you want a good surf movie with technical moves that you can try and copy in your next session dont bother. either way enjoy.

Used-before formula. Good in parts, mediocre overall... (24 December 2005)
Seen it all before... Check out the Laird Hamilton video, "Laird". "Billabong Odyssey" appears to be much the same formula (similar script) as "Laird", big-wave tow-in at Jaws, Teahupoo, windsurfing, surfing with hydrofoils... Could they not bring something new to us? The narration in "Billabong Odyssey" is just plain irritating, as though the viewers were pre-pubescent kids receiving a lesson. Some of the surfing is good, though, with the footage from Cortes Bank being the highlight. Indeed, the only thing that sells this film is the opening footage of Cortes. I was contemplating giving 3 stars because of Cortes, but at the end of the day it is about the complete package. Rent it, do not purchase.
Do yourselves a favour, for the same money grab 'Step into Liquid', or the best one of all, 'Riding Giants'.

Just the intro alone will blow you away (21 December 2005)
I loved this film I sometimes get sick of seeing surf films that don't make you think or just show some surfer sitting on a wave. The scenes, stories and interviews will blow you away! In my opinion a surf film needs a hook to make it stick out, some culture, some background and depth, and this has got it all and more. Totally unique. You'll love it, buy it!

Ending is good (01 November 2005)
After watching Riding Giants, I was looking forward to Billabong Odyssey, but found it disapointing until the end at Jaws, wheres as riding giants gives you the history, and amateur film, and the characters thruoghout the history of surfer, so if you liked Billabong Odyssey, you will love Riding Giants!
