Customer Reviews:

  Outstanding (29 December 2008)
A chance to discover things about the world in which we live, while absorbing an absolute masterpiece of cinematic art.

I haven't seen the blu-ray version, but can only imagine it enhances a totally memorable experience.

This is a truly wonderful film.

Mesmorising; outstanding ... there are insufficient superlatives for use here.

  Mesmorising (28 December 2008)
I was using this to show my new Blu-ray player to a friend. Initially he couldn't understand why anyone would just have a load of footage without narration or telling you the place names. After a few minutes he was completely drawn in and within about 15 mins we were discussing the state of the world etc. The Blu-ray is so crisp and sharp you feel like you are there. It's breathtaking. The experience of the film is definitely enhanced over the DVD... which helps for a film of this kind. There was a funny moment on the restoration extras though, where the guy mentions that this 'HD-DVD release' is a unique event... :) Indeed.

  Near perfection (24 December 2008)
Baraka: Remastered (Blu Ray) [Blu-ray] [1992]

If you know the film but are debating if the BluRay version is worth getting, then stop worrying and just buy it - I'd be amazed if anyone was disappointed; the video quality is stunning...

If you don't know the film then I highly recommend it, especially in this format.

well worth buying (03 December 2008)
I recently bought a large, (42 inch ) latest Panasonic plasma TV and their new blue ray player, and saw this disc reviewed. It was suggested that this disc was worth a look. Well i can assure you it is. Beautifully sharp, brilliant skin tones and some beautiful footage from all over the world. If you watch it and don't feel like heading for the Airport i'll be amazed. It's something different, no special effects, and an advert for the world, treat yourself and buy with confidence, and see what you can get from your TV.

Brings the original experience into the living room (11 November 2008)
Having seen Baraka on its theatrical release on New Zealand's biggest screen I have been longing to re-capture that feeling of utter awe and emotional connection that occurred when I first saw it. That day has finally come and their incredible remastering and high resolution scanning of the 65mm negative, as detailed in the accompanying mini-documentary, was the final stroke of vision and foresight which will make Baraka the standard by which other analogue transfers are measured.

I was, all over again, stunned and amazed by this incredibly beautiful film where every shot is an absolute masterpiece and some of which leave me literally with goose flesh and almost moved to tears by the magnificence of it all. Truly a must have for any Blu Ray player owner.
