Was it really like this? Alistair Sym demonstrates his wonderful skills as the catalyst to the whole film. He always seems to be a lynch pin without the film focussing on him. He, as always, portrays his role flawlessly, showing his charm but assertive manner. The film demonstrates the impact of decisions and actions made by those ignorant of those less fortunate than themselves, on the people around them. The twist is in how quickly we can forget the lessons we learn. The plot I will leave for you to see. A film that must be purchased! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() FIVESTAR ENTERTAINMENT (21 July 2010)THIS IS BRITISH FILM MAKING AT THE PINNACLE OF 50'S PRODUCT a WELL MADE, SCRIPTED,DIRECTED AND FILMED MINI CLASSIC DON'T MISS IT..IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT THEN YOU ARE IN FOR AREAL SURPRISE ALASTAIR SIM IS AS EVER, WORTH THE VIEWING ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() An inspector calls DVD (21 April 2010)Delighted to be able to get this DVD at a fantastic price. Bought it for someone one who saw it on tv years ago and wanted to see it again!! She loved the film, as did my 14 year old who has watched it a number of times. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Authentic Version of a J B Priestley Play (21 April 2010)I love old, black and white movies and I am facsinated by the development of drama and dramatic writing in the twentieth century. An Inspector Calls has in recent years been seen in a much-lauded, much awarded theatre production directed by Stephen Daldry which is, yet again, undergoing a revival in the UK as I write. This is indeed a unique and imaginative restaging of Pristley's play but, in my view it overlays the original with many intrusive elements. This filmed version is beautifully and simply done and is an authentic version (even though to some degree an adaptation) of Priestley's play. To some contemporary viewers it may seem old-fashioned, but it is strong on narrative, the story moves forward swiftly, and the acting is exceptionally detailed and controlled. Some performances may seem hoaky by the standards of today, but this in itself is fascinating - and one performance, that of Jane Wenham as the girl everyone else has had a relationship of some kind with, stands out as an exceptional film performance. Also, if you are a fan of Alistair Sim, this film contains one of his best performances. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Who Is The Inspector? (17 April 2010)Alastair Sim makes the Inspector seem like an ordinary policeman and then he forces each character to confront the consequences of their actions. At the end you are asking who is the inspector, an avenging angel, a ghost, an imposter? Alastair Sim is brilliant and this is a must buy DVD. |
